American Dream - The Man

Burning Man's 2008 theme, The American Dream, was the event's first explicitly political theme since 1996 — asking the nearly 50,000 participants in Black Rock City to weigh what America had achieved against what left them uneasy, without picking a side.

That year's Man stood atop a 66-foot obelisk ringed with the flags of every nation except the United States, a choice Burners still debate.

Who made this particular American Dream sticker has been lost to time — like plenty of pieces from the Archive's earliest years, it survives without a name attached, one more artifact from a theme that asked Black Rock City to hold up a mirror to the country itself.
