Areola 51

The Areola 51 sticker marks the 2025 debut of one of Black Rock City's newest theme camps, whose name riffs on the real Area 51 — the classified Air Force facility in the Nevada desert whose decades of official secrecy turned it into pop-culture shorthand for UFOs, aliens, and government cover-ups.

That kind of pun is a Burning Man tradition: camps build their names, their art, and their culture around a joke, then invite the rest of the city in on it. Areola 51 contributed this design themselves as part of the 2025 event, held under the theme Tomorrow Today, which asked participants to imagine — and start building — better futures instead of just waiting for one to arrive.

For a first-year camp, adding a sticker to the Archive is its own small version of that idea: showing up, staking a claim on playa history, and writing yourself into the record."
