MÚCARO

This is another amazing art project from the artist NiNo. The creator of "ATABEY" the oversized fish in 2022 and the giant frame "GOT FRAMED" that debuted 2015.

MÚCARO was a 30-foot interactive owl sculpture by Puerto Rican artist El NiNo, installed at Burning Man 2017. Visitors climbed spiral stairs up into its head and looked out through giant rotating eyes across the playa. The owl honors the Múcaro — a screech owl sacred to the Taíno indigenous people, with petroglyphs carved in Puerto Rican caves dating to the 13th century. El NiNo dedicated it to his mother, a teacher for over 45 years, and became the first Puerto Rican artist to receive a Black Rock City Honoraria grant.
