Azul

The 2003 Burning Man theme "Beyond Belief" invited participants into the space between reverence and ridicule — to play with sacred imagery without being bound by dogma.

Azul means blue in Spanish and Portuguese — a color long associated in many traditions with the mystical, the divine, and the liminal. In the context of Beyond Belief, a name like Azul is not incidental: it points toward something oceanic, something you can reach into but never fully grasp.

It's the kind of artifact that seems designed to be found rather than explained, a small talisman for the bewildered and the curious. Bryan Dongray contributed it to the Archive in 2003.
